It's All About the Sketchbooks

It's All About the Sketchbooks

Let me start by saying - I LOVE Sketchbooks. I am a sketchbook enthusiast. They are so important to the way that I work. Sketchbooks are many things to many people. For example, my husband finds it very confusing that I use sketchbooks made with lovely paper for writing in - he says that’s not sketching. He’s right (don’t tell him that though) but the written labels and pondering are all part of the creative process. They are a manifestation of my thoughts that help me to think mire deeply and solve problems or expand on ideas.

There are many things within my sketchbooks (of which there are many):

*doodles

*observational drawings

*paintings or mixed media explorations

*notes

*lists

*quotes that I come across

*photos (of my art, other artists’ work, flower etc)

*leaflets and branding ideas

*logo

*scraps of wrapping paper, fabric or other keepsakes

*calligraphy/letter - a recent obsession of my

*test prints

*tracings

*demonstrations that I do in class

There are probably many more things that I use them for and it’s constantly evolving as I see how other people use them. I pretty much use them for everything but my accounts (although they’d look a lot prettier in my sketchbooks.

I have attached some photos for you to check out. They are just a snap shot of what is listed above. There is a large section of my studio dedicated to housing them. I could never bin them - I did once and regretted it very soon after.

If you have any questions or want to see more, then comment below or use the contact page of this website. I love to hear and see how other people use theirs.
