The Peacock & The Printmaker Studio
The Peacock & The Printmaker Studio
About a year ago, my very understanding and supportive husband agreed to the remodelling of our back yard, which included demolishing the garage and out buildings and constructing an art studio attached to the back of the house. This place is my happy place - my haven - and I feel exceptionally lucky to have it.
My studio is small but perfectly formed. The top priorities were light and storage without over spending so I trawled the charity shops and repurposed existing furniture. We were very lucky to already be in possession of a pastry cupboard - so useful. It has a fold out tray, two cupboards and a drawer. Most of my materials, including my sewing machine and sketchbooks, are stored in here. My first furniture purchase was a solid, dark wood desk with three drawers and a cupboard. This is where I keep my print blocks, print plates and papers. I love this desk. It looks soooo much more expensive than it was. It was an absolute bargain, and goodness knows I love a bargain.
To pin up my test prints, collected business cards and snippets of inspiration, I mounted clipboards on the wall over my desk. I love having a display that I can change really easily and play around with. It does get messy but creativity doesn’t look neat and ordered to me.
