12 Months of Florals

12 Months of Florals

This time last year (Jan 2021) I totally lost my art mojo. I felt down a lot like many of us did and we were stuck inside so I was finding it really hard to be inspired. I stopped making prints, drawing or being creative in any way and it was a tough funk to get out of.

Then my husband noticed and told me I needed to make more. He was right but I didn’t know how. I took to instagram to see what some of my favourite creatives were up to and noticed that they were setting challenges for themselves and others. This made me wonder what challenge I could set myself.

On one of our daily walks, we spotted some Snowdrops pushing up out of the ground and I decided there and then it had to be florals. Also, when chatting to my Facebook followers, one asked if I could try and new flower every month. YES! I thought. That’s it - a different flower linocut every month.

By the time I settled on this, it was already February and my brief research told me that Snowdrops are associated with February so that seemed like a great place to start.

This month (Jan 2022) I released the last of the mini prints and the satisfaction of completing a collection is marvellous. Below, you can see each month in florals. Each one measures 12cm and costs £42 (£52 in a 20cm mount).

Crocus

January: A bright pink and yellow number to combat the grey days of winter.

Snowdrop

February: These magical and dainty flowers astound me every February. Their strength is incredible.

Daffodil

March: Always a joyful sign that spring is on it’s way. Who doesn’t love a daff!

Daisy

April: This delicate beauty caught my eye when I spotted the pink flecks in the petals. It’s amazing what you spot when you look closely.

Lily of the Valley

May: Sometimes less is more - the light swish of green is enough to breathe life into this print.

Rose

June: Roses are always beautiful and this hot pink number is no exception.

Poppy Pods

July: The magic of a poppy pod before the flower emerges captivates my imagination every year.

Sunflower

August: Summer is in full swing when the sunflowers are out. What’s the tallest that you have ever seen?

Fuchsia

September: This colourful number is a nod to my Nana, who always had fuchsia in her abundant garden.

Carnation

October: Carnations are a bouquet classic and it was tough to choose a colour - that’s why I asked my social media followers to choose.

Chrysanthemum

November: I almost shied away from this print with the complex tangle of petals but it was so gorgeous that I couldn’t resist. It came out so beautifully too!

Poinsettia

December: It had to be the Christmas flower in December. They never quite look real to me but they are always beautiful.

Which is your favourite? I’d love to know. Leaving a comment below!
