Lino Printmaking: A Newcastle Printmaker’s Blog
Lino Printmaking Workshops and More for 2024…
Wanna know something weird? I never intended to start a business. All I wanted was something for myself after having a baby - something creative that was just about me in a life where my existence entirely revolved around a tiny person. I had wanted a baby for about a decade but it wasn't the right time. Truth be told I thought she'd fill a void. Instead she showed me I had work to do on myself and that included attending to my creative needs. Printmaking gives me an enormous sense of self, the world and how I express my feelings. The carving process helps me focus on the moment instead of stressing about the long list of jobs that never seems to get shorter and the inking brings much loved colour into the day. Creating artwork, I get to decide on my own perspective and show how I see things or want things to be. It's a form of communication where I don't have to talk and I can speak to people's emotions. I connect with people who either see the world like me or want to. It's pretty amazing really. If you want to explore this incredible process (as well as others) and see what it can do for you, check out the workshops that I’m offering this year by reading more.
Get cozy, it's storytime...
Towards the end of 2023, I was working away on a new print and now it’s time to tell you the story of how it came to life.
Tumbling is a celebration of the wild waves of the North Sea. I went to stay in Beadnell and we were greeted with Storm Babet. Some people may see this as a time to hide away and stay cosy but I’m not one of those people. Instead I collected my sketchbook and watercolours and headed out to explore.
A Handmade Christmas with a Personal Touch: Teal and Copper for 2023
It’s that time of year again - time for the new Christmas collection.
This time I’ve gone for a gorgeous jewel green with copper print and edging. They’re classy and understated - classics that will last you years and years.
Made from a 10cm plywood base, hand painted and handprinted then finished with twine, these beautiful ornaments are hardwearing and beautiful - perfect for homes with children or pets (Last year one of my customers’ trees was knocked over by their dog and the ornaments were completely unscathed - the tree was a little worse for wear though!).
The New Collection of Abstract Wave Layered Lino Prints in Seasonal Hues
Step into a world where the beauty of Tynemouth Longsands and Whitley Bay Beach comes alive through art, where wavy lines and seasonal colours converge to create captivating and timeless Lino prints. I am thrilled to introduce my latest collection of limited edition Lino prints, inspired by the ever-changing seasons and the rhythmic patterns of the North Sea.
HOW MY ART STYLE HAS CHANGED OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS
I started creating Lino prints as a hobby on my kitchen in January 2018. I’d been a mum for long enough to realise that I had lost sense of what made me tick and needed to do something for myself.
It’s now April 2023 and I’m 5 years into selling my art (something that just kind of happened) and my style has changed massively over that period of time.
Let me take you through this changes…
Introducing the Ultimate Christmas Range
I am so excited to show you my new Christmas range because I know you’re going to love it and it will fit so well with your existing ornaments collection.
It’s clean and luxurious with a combination of white and copper!
Original Seascape Prints in Progress: From sketch to finished print
Soon (end of May 2022) I’ll be releasing my new collection of seascape prints for sale. I’m so excited to get them out into the big wide world so I thought I’d let you in on how the process has developed.
12 Months of Florals
On one of our daily walks, we spotted some Snowdrops pushing up out of the ground and I decided there and then it had to be florals. Also, when chatting to my Facebook followers, one asked if I could try and new flower every month. YES! I thought. That’s it!
By the time I settled on this, it was already February and my brief research told me that Snowdrops are associated with February so that seemed like a great place to start.
Christmas Range 2021 Questions Answered
My cards and ornaments are made using high quality @cranfieldcolours metallic inks that give the most glorious glow against the Christmas lights. These inks were chosen because they produce the most beautiful sheen as they catch the light.
Show Your Home Some Love
Many of us are spending a LOT more time in our homes than we were this time last year so it’s important that it’s a place that we love being in. I must admit that we decorated our home in a rush before our child was born and haven’t really touched it since. There are definitely things I want to change. How about you?
Change Can be Good…One really simple way to make a change is to fill your home with art that makes you smile. So what is your thing? Is it colour, nature, monochrome, metallics? Funnily enough I have something to satisfy each and every one of those desires.
Christmas Gift Guide 2020
This year more than ever before we are watching the budget. Many of you, like me, have pledged to support independent businesses this Christmas. Showing you care for someone isn’t about how much you spend - it’s about taking the time to choose something with that person in mind.
Summer Art Vibes!
I don’t know about you, but a bit of sunshine has done me the world of good recently. It’s amazing the difference that some extra vitamin D can make.
I, like me, a colour injection can give you a big boost then these prints and gifts are just what you need. There’s flora and fauna in abundance. Here are a few of my favourites to bring summer to your home whatever the weather.
Crafty Ways to Keep You and Your Family Busy During Lockdown
Let me start by saying that I hope you are all safe and well. As a part time teacher, I am working modified hours in school but mostly from home. However, as an artists, it is mostly business as usual. Below are a few ideas on how to stay inspired during quarantine.
New Print in the Making
Without doubt, the print that gets the most comments online and at markets is my baby penguin. He’s very cute and there are some great little details to discover.
Well I thought it was time to make him a companion so I’ve been busy sketching, carving and testing until I get it right. Here are a few process pics to whet your appetite…
